Bude Croquet Club, established only 6 years ago, hosted a friendly match in the town with a team representing Barnstaple today. This was the third time these teams have met this year and are proving both a sporting and social success. The result was an 11-5 win to this young Bude club against a much longer established one. Further fixtures are being arranged for this year against clubs from St Austell, St Agnes, Plymouth and Exeter.
Though young, the club has already attracted 25 members from the Bude area and are ambitious to expand further. They have tamed what was scrubland to establish 4 lawns and are negotiating a longterm lease for them, and have gained planning permission to erect a clubhouse to shelter from the elements during play. Funds are now being sought from regional and national organisations such as Sport England, The National Lottery Fund and The Croquet Association to build it.
If you’re interested in playing the game please get in touch.
PS ‘Man of the Match’ award goes to John’s wife Norah who, yet again, supplied the delicious cake for half time.

A bit late now for this one, but how about submitting to the local paper for extra exposure?
